Sensitivity Assessment After Performing Different Types of Teeth Whitening

One of the most demanded aesthetic parameters by patients today is the color of their teeth. More and more patients are coming to undergo a treatment to change the tone of their teeth, so one of the treatments that is most commonly performed is teeth whitening or bleaching.

Among the techniques used in the office we find in-office whitening and home whitening. These two techniques are always advised and assisted by us, specialist dentists. In these procedures the product used is hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide in different concentrations, the latter being the one used in home treatments.

It is no secret that when you undergo whitening, tooth sensitivity can increase from mild to moderate (and much more if you had sensitivity before the procedure) so the use of fluoride and desensitizing agents are mandatory during and after the treatment.

The study confirms that in-office dental whitening, using a bleaching agent with a higher concentration (usually 35% hydrogen peroxide), generates more dental sensitivity than home whitening done with carbamide peroxide…

However, whitening done in the dentist’s office allows us to obtain a lighter tone in less time, having in its favor that the use of whitening covers for several days or for many hours is not necessary, although in conscientious patients, who meet certain characteristics, I usually implement them. It is not a whitening for all patients, so, taking into account that the majority of patients who attend my office want changes as quickly as possible, I have developed a protocol that consists of an office whitening that guarantees to reduce the perceived sensitivity during and after the whitening treatment, obtaining results equal to or better than those reported in the study, because I modified* the application mode and I use desensitizing agents in my favor in the process, guaranteeing you an excellent result without the need to suffer from sensitivity or pain. increased.

I have had many patients who are afraid of having their teeth whitened again. With this new protocol, my intention is to help them overcome their fear of feeling pain again at the dental unit.

Is this your case?

And, if it is, would you give yourself the opportunity to try this protocol strictly created so that you can have white teeth without pain?

I’m reading you.

  • I emphasize that I respect and follow to the letter the protocol recommended by the commercial company for the application of the whitening agent and I do not modify the recommended time or process, because this is what allows me to achieve a reliable, safe procedure with good results.
